Conversations in Contracting S1E5: It’s Not Easy Being Green: The Journey to Sustainable Acquisitions

Jefferson Solutions’ President, Dr. Allan Burman served as a Panelists for GSA’s Center for Acquisition Professional Excellence’s (CAPE) fifth episode of Conversations in Contracting on June 13, 2017, It’s Not Easy Being Green: The Journey to Sustainable Acquisitions. CAPE is an GSA  wide acquisition workforce development program with a mission to ensure that GSA is the Federal Government’s premiere employer for acquisition professionals by recruiting, developing, and retaining a community of strategic business partners with exceptional acquisition competency. Conversations in Contracting is an interactive acquisition applied learning series.

Dr. Burman, along with fellow panelists David Frye, Becky Zusman, Kevin Funk, Jed Ela, Sandra Britz, and Jennifer Hazelman focused on how to improve sustainability in government acquisitions. Dr. Burman spoke to the importance of not only accounting for the original purchase cost, but also the entire lifecycle cost of the product.  Additionally, as a former OFPP Administrator, Dr. Burman was able to shed light on the evolution of sustainability in the Government. His OFPP Policy Letter 92-4 titled, Procurement of Environmentally Sound and Energy Efficient Products, issued in 1992 was named number one in the Top 3 Policies that have had the Greatest Impact on the Current State of Sustainability in Acquisitions.
